  Shanghai is located at the crossing of the Yangze River and the China's golden coast. It covers an area of 6,340 Km2 with a population of 13.21 million, making it the biggest city in the country. Shanghai is the largest commercial, financial and trade center in China and is gradually built into one of the international economic and financial cities as well as trade and navigation centers.

  Shanghai is well known for its long history and brilliant culture in the world. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Shanghai has obtained the fame of a huge museum with its unique style in the art of architecture combining Eastern and Western culture, and historic sites of big events. In recent years, great changes have taken place in the outlook of the city due to the fast pace of city construction. The emerging skyscrapers and classic buildings are well matched. Shanghai, known as an "Oriental Pearl", is shining brightly and colorfully.

  Shanghai is also a metropolis full of vigor and vitality. Its rapid development over the past decades has aroused the world's attention. Shanghai is evolving into a leading economic, financial, technical, information, cultural and navigation center in China, attracting an investment of over USD30 billion in some 20,000 projects from 90 countries and regions around the world. More than half of the companies listed as FORTUNE's Global 500 has settled down in Shanghai. Moreover, a number of important international conventions were held there, for instance, APEC Summit in 2001 and ADB Annual Meeting in 2002, etc. There are about 300 international flight routes from Shanghai to 96 countries and regions. Shanghai is demonstrating its fine image as a metropolitan.
